Outstanding Students
(Global Participation)

Budha Dal Public School
students brought laurels to the city & the nation when they won the 11th and
12th International Space Settlement Design Competition organized by the American Institute
of Aeronautics & Astronautics at NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida in the year
2004 and 2005. At the competition the students, all 14 to 18 years of age were given a
project, the parametres and were asked to design a settlement in space for 5500 people.
The settlement will be operated by Robots. These Robots were called 'Help bots' and were
designed to do house hold work, construction work, maintenance etc. The settlement was
designed in the shape of a tube (torus) with a central region connected to the outer ring
by four linkage rods. It was designed to have a zero gravity environment and will be
provided with a commercial centre, residential areas, power plant and water treatment
facility. It was a feat achieved in 43 hours of continuous endeavour & perseverance.
Various NGO's Banks and
other agencies came forward to honour the students on their arrival from the US. The Chief
Minister of Punjab, Capt. Amarinder Singh honoured the team as well as helped them
overcome the financial constraints which made the visit possible.
